TCF Bank Online Banking Guide
History
TCF Bank was founded in Minneapolis in 1923 as the Twin City Building and Loan Association. In 1936, it received a federal charter and changed its name to Twin City Federal Savings and Loan Association, a name later compressed to TCF.
Since then, TCF Bank has expanded to multiple states throughout the Midwest, including Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. However, several western states, such as Colorado, Arizona, and South Dakota have a handful of branches. Michigan is one of its primary operating centers, as it purchased a Michigan-based bank in the 2000s and has an operating center in Midland in the state.
In spite of some legal troubles in the early 2000s, TCF Bank continues to have a significant presence in its operating states. And on January 28, 2019, Chemical Bank in Detroit merged with TCF to become one of the larger financial groups in Michigan. A vast majority of these Michigan-based branches focus on the metropolitan area in the southeast of the state, with their chapters outside this area mostly sold over a decade ago.

How to Wire Money With TCF Bank
TCF Bank is currently not part of the Swift network, which means you cannot use a Swift number to wire money to other accounts. However, TCF Bank does utilize a system for fund transfers that you can use to move money between your accounts.
This process allows you to set up bill payment with over 70,000 businesses, utilize same-day delivery, transfer money between your TCF Bank accounts, and create recurring transfers and payments. Setting up these transfers is very simple and includes the following steps:
- Login to your TCF Bank account to get started
- Click on the “Pay and Transfer” section of your account.
- Choose the appropriate option for your action, such as setting up recurring transfers or making a one-time payment.
- Input the information of the account to which you are transferring the money. This step typically includes the account and routing numbers.
- Add any other information that the transfer requires, such as the name of the account or business receiving the money, and more.
- Input the amount of money you plan on sending to the account.
- Click on “Submit” and double-check your information to ensure that it is accurate. At this point, you can go back and edit any details to ensure that your transfer is accurate.
- Finalize your transfer to send your money
This option is suitable only for transferring money to your accounts or creating bill payment options. Wiring money to other accounts requires working with Western Union. This service works with TCF Banks to create quick wire money transfers. Western Union transfers are only available at TCF Bank branches and not online.
How to Enroll and Login With TCF Bank
Enrolling With TCF Bank Online
- Click on this site to start. Check all of your information before beginning to ensure that you are ready to go. You’ll need your account information, your address, an email address, a Social Security number, and a phone number.
- Select “Got It! Enroll Now!” to begin the process. At this page, you’ll be asked to input your TCF account number, or your debit card number; your account PIN; and a Social Security or Federal Tax ID number. Click on “Next” to move on to verification.
- Look through the information on the verification page to ensure that it is accurate. Here you’ll find your mailing address, email address, and phone number. Make any adjustments, if necessary, to ensure that TCF Bank has all of the right information for your banking needs.
- Create a login ID that you can use to enter your account. Try to choose a name that is simple to remember but which isn’t easy to predict. Your first and last name may be too predictable, though variations including your first or last initial may work.
- Set your password. To protect your account, enter a nine-digit password that you know you will remember. A good password should include upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and at least one symbol, such as #. Avoid using passwords you’ve used in the past or which are on your current accounts.
- Select a security question. Choose a question and answer that you can use to access your account if you forget your password or if someone tried to hack you. These questions should be highly personal and include details only you would know.
- Finish creating your account. After you’ve created your security question, you click on “Finish” to create your online account. Log in and add any extra information you want to your profile, such as extra people who can access your account or a description of yourself.
Logging Onto Your TCF Bank Account
- Go to the front page of TCF Bank and search for the login page. This section is located on the upper right of the page and should be very easy to find.

TCF Branch Locator
The vast number of TCF Banks throughout the Midwest makes it easy for most people to find one near them. However, you may struggle to find a location if you’re new to an area or simply traveling through a city. Thankfully, the TCF Bank branch locator is easy to use and will help you find a branch or ATM for your banking purposes:
- Click on the branch locator link to get started. This tool syncs up to GPS sites to make finding a branch near you even easier.
- Input your address. Type in your address into the search bar and click on “Search” to begin. The branch locator will quickly assess your proximity to TCF Bank branches and ATMs.
- Look through your options. Once the search is over, the branch locator will highlight any branches or ATMs near you. Scroll through one until you find an option that suits your needs.
- Click on the branch in the search tag. After you’ve found the branch or ATM that you want to visit, click on its name to get information. These details include the address of the bank, their operating hours, and other details.
These simple steps should make finding a TCF Bank quite easy. However, you need to be in a state that has a TCF Bank branch to find one. The locator has a broad, but not limitless, search range and will come up with no results if a chapter isn’t near you.
